While Pakistan launched an attack on Indian borders, and now India-Pakistan relations are deteriorating, the Indian Army had just launched an offensive operation named Operation Sindoor against terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK. Despite the ceasefire being agreed, India is severing all diplomatic ties with Pakistan. Hopefully, the cricket matches also get affected. And maybe, the host of the 2026 T20 World Cup makes a big decision on this potential face-off.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting will take place between the 17th and 20th of July, during which they will discuss the future of India versus Pakistan matches at the T20 World Cup. Generally, both teams are drawn into the same group, but PTI has reported there is a chance that the ICC may decide to change this. If they are drawn in separate groups, a meeting would still be possible if both teams make it through into the knockouts.
The issue is certainly going to be addressed. It’s highly unlikely the teams won’t face off against each other in the ICC knockouts, but the prospect of them not being drawn together in the same group is quite real, said a BCCI source.
