India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has dismissed concerns about Jasprit Bumrah not being match ready for the England tour due to his limited IPL outings. “Bumrah knows how to get himself ready. I’ve been really impressed with him in the last few days. He looks happy and in good form, Morkel told reporters during a training session.
He’s happy that Bumrah’s body is in good shape and they will manage his workload well as he’s key to the team’s success. Morkel feels the team has made good choices for the squad. “I think we’ve got everything covered but we need to get match fit and sharp again, we haven’t played Test matches in a while. In England if it’s cloudy it can work in your favour but the pitches will still be decent to play on.”
Morkel stressed the importance of having players fit and ready to bowl 90 overs. “We’ve had only three training sessions. We have a four-day warm up match against India A coming up and that will really show how our players perform,” he said.

Though they’ve had those training sessions Morkel said it’s not enough to gauge how players will hold up in a match. “It’s one thing to perform in nets but getting used to 90 overs on the field takes time. We need to be patient and find a way to get up to speed quickly as that’ll be the real challenge,” he added.
Morkel was pleased to see players stepping up and showing leadership in training. “I’ve been really impressed watching them take ownership and realise this tour will be tough. As coaches it’s great to see that kind of commitment and responsibility in practice.”
