In the first Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series at Headingley, Leeds, the Indian men’s team couldn’t get all 20 Englishmen out. So England won the match and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
In India’s first innings, Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets, Mohammed Siraj 2 and Prasidh Krishna 3. In the second innings, Bumrah and Siraj didn’t get any wickets, Prasidh and Shardul Thakur 2 each.
Before the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday, July 2, Irfan Pathan spoke about pace bowling. He thought about the reasons why Indian bowlers couldn’t get wickets.
Irfan said the bowlers did well at times but struggled to hit the right length according to the batsman. He pointed out the difference between Zach Crawley and Ben Duckett, who opened for England.
Irfan said bowlers need to adjust their line and length between right handers and left handers in the same over. He said Crawley would play a certain length on the front foot, Duckett would cut the same length. He stressed that adjusting to the right length is key to success, especially in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia).

Irfan said Indian bowlers didn’t adjust their lengths according to the batsman in the first game. He hopes they will do better in this aspect in the next game. He said Duckett plays square on both off and leg side, Crawley uses a big front foot to cover the line and swing. Adjusting the line and length according to the batsman and the pitch is the key moving forward.
