Glenn Maxwell has suffered some bad news from Marcus Stoinis of Punjab Kings. He fractured his finger during training just before their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders, which will put him probably for the rest of IPL 2025. The scans weren’t good. He sustained the injury before their previous match, where he managed to score just seven runs, making it an extremely tough season for him.
With Suryansh Shedge stepping in for him, Punjab won the match against the Chennai Super Kings by four wickets. Stoinis went on to say in a conversation at JioHotstar, “Unfortunately, Maxi broke his finger just before the last game at training. He didn’t think it was too serious, but it got worse. The scans weren’t great.” He added that it looks like he won’t be able to return this season.
Punjab head coach Ricky Ponting said they’re looking for a replacement, but it won’t be easy. This has been a grueling season for Maxwell, so if he’s out for the entire season, it won’t hurt the team too much. “We’ll be signing replacements at some point. We still have time until our 12th game. With our current squad, we’re trying to figure things out,” Ponting said after the match.
He also stated they are keeping an eye on their Indian players since the international options are limited due to other leagues. “There are not many good replacements available, so we are being patient. We consider Indian talents and younger players for different roles,” he added. PBKS will next take on the Lucknow Super Giants on May 4.
