After a tough loss in their last game, the Delhi Capitals (DC) made a strong comeback, taking down the Lucknow Super Giants by a solid eight wickets in their eighth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Choosing to bowl first, the team led by Axar Patel put on a stellar performance with the ball. Mukesh Kumar really stole the show, taking four wickets and helping to limit Lucknow to 159 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs.
When it came time for batting, Delhi Capitals saw impressive performances from a few key players. Youngster Abishek Porel scored 51 runs off 36 balls, while wicket-keeper KL Rahul secured 57 not out off 42 balls. Captain Axar Patel also contributed with a quick 34 not out from just 20 balls, helping the team chase down the score by the 18th over.
After the game, Porel shared his thoughts during a press conference, saying, “I always believed we could chase the target. The pitch was playing nicely, and we bowled really well, especially in the middle overs. So, I felt pretty confident.” He talked about enjoying his batting this season and how discussions with coaches like Hemang Badani and Kevin Pietersen have helped him. “I take what I learn from them and try to implement it during matches.”
He also mentioned how much he appreciates the support he receives from the coaching staff and senior players. “They tell me to just play freely. The coaches and my teammates have been incredibly supportive, and they all have my back, he added.
When asked about his aspirations for the future, Porel stated, “Of course, the dream is to represent India. But for now, my focus is on scoring runs for the Delhi Capitals and helping the team claim the trophy.”
Porel didn’t hold back on complimenting Mukesh Kumar’s bowling either. “Mukesh is really someone who sticks to his strengths. He’s a hard worker who puts in a lot of effort during practice, especially when it comes to his Yorkers, he said.
With this win, the Delhi Capitals now stand at six victories and hold 12 points after eight matches, sitting comfortably in second place on the points table. Their next challenge comes against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, April 27. It looks like the team is gearing up and ready to push for more wins in this exciting season of the IPL!
