Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s top fast bowlers, hasn’t played since early January 2025 and will sit out the Mumbai Indians’ next match on April 4 against the Lucknow Super Giants. This game is happening at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Reports from ESPNCricinfo say that Bumrah, who is 31 and has taken 165 wickets in 133 IPL matches, is not just missing this game; he might also be sidelined for the big match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium on April 7.
The good news is that Bumrah is reportedly making progress toward returning to the field. He’s been ramping up his bowling training at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru and is getting close to finishing his fitness tests. He’ll only be able to join Mumbai Indians once he gets the green light from the medical team at the BCCI.
It seems Bumrah is being careful about his recovery; he really wants to be fully fit before he plays again, especially with India’s upcoming five-match Test series against England kicking off on June 28. The focus is on making sure he’s ready for that challenge.
With Bumrah out, former New Zealand bowler Trent Boult will be leading the Mumbai Indians’ bowling lineup. He’ll be joined by Deepak Chahar, who came on board for a hefty sum of Rs 9.25 crore during the IPL mega auction last year.
In the last IPL match the Mumbai Indians played on March 31 against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the bowlers really turned heads. After choosing to bowl first, they managed to knock out the defending champions for just 116 runs in 16.2 overs. Boult made a solid start, taking out Sunil Narine right in the first over, while Chahar added to his tally with two wickets of his own. Plus, Ashwani Kumar, making his IPL debut, made a splash by taking four wickets for just 24 runs in three overs, leading to a fantastic eight-wicket victory for the team under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy.
