Joe Root has equalled the record for most hundreds against India in Test cricket. He achieved this in the ongoing Test at Lord’s.
On day two of the Test, Root hit a boundary on the first ball to go past 99 and score his 37th Test hundred. That was also his 11th against India, matching Steve Smith’s record for most Test hundreds against the South-Asian nation.

Right now Root and Smith are at the top for most hundreds against India in Test cricket. Behind them are Ricky Ponting, Sir Viv Richards and Gary Sobers who have 8 Test hundreds against India.
England had a poor start after choosing to bat first, losing Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett early. But Root stabilised the innings with Ollie Pope. After Pope and Harry Brook were dismissed quickly, Root and Ben Stokes added another partnership before Bumrah dismissed Stokes. At the time of this report England were 260/5 with Root 103* and Jamie Smith 0*.
Root has now scored the most runs at Lord’s in all formats, 2,526 in 33 matches. He went past Graham Gooch who had 2,513 runs. This was also Root’s 103rd fifty-plus score in Test cricket which includes 36 hundreds and 67 fifties. He is now tied with Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting, only behind Sachin Tendulkar who has 119 fifty-plus scores in Test matches.

Root also achieved another milestone, becoming the first player to score 3,000 runs against India in Test cricket. He now has 3,054 runs in 33 Tests against India with 10 hundreds. He is also the third player to score over 3,000 runs in a non-Ashes Test rivalry. Gary Sobers scored 3,214 runs against England and Sachin Tendulkar scored 3,630 runs against Australia.
