Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, says he’s going to be ready for the 2025-26 Ashes in Australia at the end of the year. He also said he’d play the last two Tests of the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series if the management, led by Brendon McCullum, lets him.
Archer has been out of Test cricket for four years due to a bad back and elbow. He made his comeback to international cricket recently and was supposed to be in the Test squad for the India series. But a thumb injury slowed things down until the Lord’s Test.
His comeback was impressive, bowling over 145kph consistently and taking five big wickets. He got Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar out early on Monday and helped England win by 22 runs.
I’m ready for the other two if they want me, Archer told the BBC after the Test. I want to win this series. I said I wanted to play this summer and the Ashes. I’ve got one ticked off my list and I’ll do everything I can to be in Australia in November.
When asked if he ever thought he’d play Test cricket again, Archer said, No. This format would take the longest to get back to. The team has been playing some great cricket since ‘Baz’ took over, Archer said. The team’s mindset under ‘Baz’ is perfect for how I like to play. So I was just keen to get back and do it without being forced.
