Jofra Archer’s return to Test cricket after a long layoff was one to savour. And England’s 22-run win over India at Lord’s on Monday was made all the more special.
Archer made an impact on the second day. Starting from the Nursery End, he got rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal and said it was a huge confidence booster.
“The first celebration was quite emotional. It’s been a long road and I can’t even begin to describe the amount of abuse I’ve had online over the last few years. I tried to keep my cool but as soon as the catch was taken all that went out the window because of the joy and the crowd. They really lifted me up. Every bit of hard work and therapy was worth it.
When asked about the comments from the England fielders when an Indian batsman walked in during the fourth innings, Archer said: “It was a team thing. We spoke about it yesterday and decided we were too friendly.

“When we play away some teams aren’t as friendly to us so we thought we’d try something different. I’m not sure if it gave us more energy in the field but we’ll keep it in mind for later!
Archer finished by saying he wasn’t happy with himself for giving Rishabh Pant a send-off after dismissing him for nine on day five. “I wasn’t happy with that moment. I just told him to charge. He came down the track and that annoyed me a bit. So when the ball seamed down the slope I was very grateful for it.”
