Jofra Archer has had a bit of a run with the injuries lately, and instead of just happening, he has now hit another setback just going into the ODI series against the West Indies. The injured right thumb has meant that Archer has had to miss out on the three-match series, with Luke Wood coming in as his replacement. The ECB will revisit the situation with Archer in the next couple of weeks, leaving his participation in the Test series against India in doubt.
In IPL 2025, Archer was in the Rajasthan Royals squad and got to play in all 12 matches prior to the season being cancelled. Nobody really knows when he injured that thumb, but supposedly in training, with this injury stopping him from playing in the last two matches for RR. Throw in an elbow injury that has kept him out for a good deal of the past few years, and with the T20 World Cup in 2024, that was really when he started really playing consistently for England.

The ECB have been pretty clear with the management of Archer’s workload, and there had been hints earlier on that he wouldn’t feature in IPL 2025, especially when looking at England’s busy summer ahead. They want to see him again in the Test team, a format he last played in 2021.
Thus, with Archer out, Luke Wood is now in line for an international break. He has played two ODIs for England but not taken a wicket as yet; he will be eager against the West Indies to rectify that.
