Vidarbha player Karun Nair has been knocking the Indian team selection door with his staggering performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The right-hander has hit 752 runs in seven innings in India’s premier domestic One Day tournament. Nair averages 752 in seven games because he got out only once and remained not out six times. The former Karnataka player has hit five hundreds and a fifty.
In the second semifinal of the VHT against Maharashtra, the 33-year-old came out to bat after the opening partnership of 224 between Yash Rathod and Dhruv Shorey was broken. Nair scored an unbeaten 88 off just 44 balls including nine fours and five and helped his side getting 380/3. Notably, this is the only half-century he scored in the tournament.

Harbhajan Singh calls for Karun Nair’s selection in the India team
Reacting to Nair’s recent form, the two-time World Cup winner for India, Harbhajan Singh has called for Nair’s comeback in the Indian team. Nair has played six Tests and two ODIs for the Men In Blue. The Jodhpur-born player made his name after scoring a triple hundred against England in Tests.

“Many are selected on the basis of just two games, some are just selected basis the IPL. So, why are rules different for him? People say Rohit and Virat are out of form, and you’re sending them to Ranji. But those who are playing Ranji and scoring runs… why are you ignoring them? When will these guys play? They are scoring runs here,”
“I’m looking at his stats. In 2024/25, he played six innings, remained not out in 5, scoring 664 and that was his average. And he’s played at a strike rate of 120. And they don’t pick him. It’s unfair,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
