KL Rahul, the Indian batter who usually opens in the Indian Premier League and scores a ton of runs for teams like Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, is probably going to bat in the middle order for Delhi Capitals this year. A report in the Times of India said that Rahul, who DC got for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2025 auction after Lucknow Super Giants let him go, will bat in the middle order, which he’s done a lot for Team India lately, but not so much in the IPL.
Apparently, Rahul, who was key in Team India winning the Champions Trophy 2025 last week, will join the DC team later this week in Visakhapatnam and will probably bat in the middle order.
The DC team has been thinking about this since training camp started. Since they have okay options at the top but not much experience in the middle, especially with Harry Brook dropping out at the last minute, it makes sense for the team to have Rahul do what he hasn’t often done in this format – bat in the middle order, the report said.
If Rahul bats in the middle order, then Faf du Plessis, who was made the team’s vice-captain for IPL 2025 on Monday, will open with Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Abhishek Porel or Karun Nair could bat at No. 3. DC kept Porel for Rs 4 crore before the IPL 2025 auction, and Nair has been in great form recently.
Rahul might bat at No. 4, followed by captain Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs. Stubbs had some important innings for DC last year, and Axar’s batting has gotten way better. He was one of India’s best with the bat in the Champions Trophy 2025.
