In an emphatic farewell manner, on Sunday, February 2, India defeated England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by an unparalleled margin of 150 runs in the fifth T20I of the five T20I matches. The batting display, courtesy of Abhishek Sharma’s record-setting knock of 135 off 54 balls, helped India pile up a huge total of 247 runs for the loss of nine wickets after the hosts were put in to bat first by the English side, who, in turn, managed to skittle England for a mere 97 runs in 10.3 overs with two wickets in one over taken by the 24-year-old from Amritsar. Besides Abhishek, other bowlers in the Indian attack contributed with Shivam Dube and Varun Chakaravarthy also took two English batters each, whereas Mohammed Shami put an end to this game with figures of 3 for 25 from 2.3 overs.
India putting their stamp over England in the last match of the T20I series meant that the home assignment ended with a scoreline of 4-1.

1. Abhishek Sharma becomes the sixth Indian cricketer after Rohit Sharma (5), Suryakumar Yadav (4), Sanju Samson (3), KL Rahul (2), and Tilak Varma (2) to score two or more centuries in T20Is.
2. He now has the highest score in T20Is by an Indian in a first-innings knock, having broken the 126 (63 balls) record by Shubman Gill against New Zealand in Ahmedabad on February 1, 2023.
3. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma helped in achieving India’s highest ever score in the Power Play in T20I history by scoring 95 runs in the first six overs.
4. Abhishek Sharma finished India’s powerplay with 58 runs, breaking Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the highest by an Indian batsman during the powerplay of a T20I.
At 17 and 37 balls, respectively, Abhishek reached his fifty and hundred, thereby becoming the second Indian batsman after the men in blue to achieve these milestones the fastest in T20Is.
5. He completed his hundred in the very first ball of the 11th over, becoming the earliest player to do so in a T20I innings, breaking the previous record of Quinton de Kock from South Africa, who reached the hundred on the second ball of the 11th over during a T20I against West Indies, played at Centurion in 2023.
6. Abhishek hit 13 sixes in his innings on Sunday, the most by an Indian batter in a T20I match.
7. Sanju Samson has become the third Indian batter after Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to hit a six on the first ball of a T20I match, marking his entry on the score sheet with a six in the first over, bowled by Jofra Archer.

8. Two wickets on Sunday helped Varun Chakaravarthy break his record in a bilateral T20I series for India. The spinner ended the five-match series against England with record showings of 14 wickets.
9. Abhishek ended the T20I series with a total of 279 runs in just 5 matches, making him set the record for most runs in a bilateral T20I series, surpassing the last record set by Virat Kohli. Kohli scored a total of 231 runs during the five-match T20I series against England in March 2021.
10. For the first time, England has lost a T20 match by more than 100 runs.
England was bowled out for 97 runs in 10.3 overs. This is the quickest innings in T20 international cricket in the 148-year history of the game.
11. A total of 33 runs were scored in the first over of both innings (16 by India & 17 by England), which is the third most in a T20I match in a full 20-over format.
11. English bowler Jofra Archer gave away a total of 14 sixes in the T20I series against England, which is the joint-second highest number of maximums given away by a bowler in a T20I series behind Lungi Ngidi of South Africa (16 versus West Indies in 2021).
