Mark Boucher, the former wicketkeeper-batter from South Africa, has been singing the praises of KL Rahul, claiming he’s been the top wicketkeeper-batter in the IPL 2025 season so far. Boucher believes India has a solid pool of talented wicketkeepers and sees a bright future ahead. So far, KL Rahul has played four matches for the Delhi Capitals, impressively scoring a total of 200 runs. With an average of about 66.66 and a strike rate of 163.93, he’s shown he knows how to handle the pressure as a middle-order batter.
One of his best performances this season was against his old team, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he scored a remarkable 93 runs without getting out, leading the Capitals to a victory. This season has been fantastic for Delhi as they’ve won four games in a row before facing just one loss.
Boucher shared his thoughts during a media interaction saying, “When we talk about the IPL, I want to look at the future without mentioning MS Dhoni. KL Rahul has been impressive, both behind the stumps and with the bat.” He went on to say that Rahul has delivered some outstanding innings and mentioned how Rahul picked up on valuable information while keeping, which benefits his batting. With performances like these, Boucher believes he stands out among the keeper-batters in the league.
It’s interesting to note that KL Rahul’s last T20 international appearance was back at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia when India faced England in the semi-finals. Boucher also pointed out that other players like Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant are also performing well. Rishabh, in particular, has been improving steadily, keeping well in recent matches. “You guys in India have so many good options,” he added, acknowledging the wealth of talent in the country.
Looking ahead, the Delhi Capitals are gearing up for their next match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where they’ll be playing against the Rajasthan Royals, who have had their ups and downs this season. Rahul will definitely be looking to bounce back and put up some big numbers after not having the best outing against the Mumbai Indians in the last game.
