Lucknow Super Giants suffered a severe blow when pace bowler Mayank Yadav is set to sit out the first half of the Indian Premier League 2025, according to ESPN Cricinfo. A back injury could cause Mayank, kept by the franchise for Rs eleven crore at the 2025 mega auctions, major first-half IPL 2025 uncertainty.
Once again bowling, Mayank is recovering from a lumbar stress injury at the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence fires. Since last year’s T20I series against Bangladesh he has been going through rehabilitation.
Mayank’s amazing accuracy and consistent speeds exceeding 150kph stole the show in IPL 2024. Last season, he hit seven wickets in four games played. Born in Delhi, the speedster was called the Player of the Match in his first two games for the brutal punches he landed in the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru contests.
Rehab from a side strain that he suffered in a new injury sustained during it also ended his season. Subsequently, in the three games of the home series last October against Bangladesh, he received an Indian call-up for the T20I series and played in them. He suffered another injury and had to go back for rehabilitation.
While the Indian Board has not clarified Mayank’s injury, a report stated he most likely has a stress-related lower back issue.
Before IPL 2024, Mayank was first selected for Rs 20 lakh. Still, his worth has skyrocketed several times since he made stunning impressions in the wealthy Indian cash league.
Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan, who has taken over as LSG’s team director, stated in February that the franchise was closely cooperating with the medical team of the BCCI to plot a path for Mayank’s return. Zaheer nevertheless emphasized that he would only wish for Mayank to be completely ready once more in the seat. He had said, “As much as we are keen on having him [play IPL 2025], we want him 150% fit not just 100% fit so we will do everything possible to get him there.
Under new captain Rishabh Pant, LSG will play their first season game against Delhi Capitals on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
