June 12, Bangladesh Cricket Board announced Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new ODI captain. He will be replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto and will be in this position for a year. Miraz has been the vice-captain and has already led the team in four matches when Shanto was not available. His first big test as captain will be the three match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
After hearing the news, Miraz expressed his excitement and said he will lead with boldness. Captaining the national team is a dream come true. I’m really honored by the trust the Board has given me. This is a big moment for me and my family. I believe in this group — we have the talent and the mindset to play fearless cricket. I want us to play with confidence and give our all for the country.
Miraz got this role because of his solid ODI performances over the years. He has taken 110 wickets in 105 matches and scored two centuries and six fifties. One thing about Miraz is he can adapt, especially he has batted at number 4 in the lineup recently.
Nazmul Abedeen, the BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman, also praised Miraz, saying he is consistent on the field. He thinks Miraz is the right man to lead the team in this transition period.

“Miraz delivers with both bat and ball and brings a fighting spirit and positive energy to the team. His performances and leadership qualities are why we see him as a great choice to lead us through this period.”
With this change, Bangladesh now have different captains for each format. Najmul Hossain Shanto is the Test captain, Litton Das is the T20I captain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the ODI captain.
