Moeen Ali, the former England cricketer, has praised KL Rahul for his performances in India’s five-Test series against England. He feels Rahul has not been given enough credit. Rahul scored 532 runs in 10 innings at an average of 53.20, which was the third-highest in the series.
Rahul is a polarising figure. With senior players retiring before the tough England tour, Rahul opened the batting and was consistent throughout the five Tests. He scored runs and silenced his critics. His technique, shot selection and overall presence was visible throughout the series.
On the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Moeen said people might underestimate KL (Rahul) as an opener. He praised his batting on foreign soil.

Moeen said, I think people don’t understand how good KL (Rahul) is, especially as an opener. His previous series in England was great and he has carried that form into this series. Shubman (Gill) scored the most runs and has a great technique, but I feel KL’s role in the team was the best I have seen him play. He is a world class player and I genuinely think he is one of the best in the world. Sometimes I feel he holds back a bit but overall he is an outstanding player.
Rahul got his 9th Test hundred at Leeds and followed it up with his 10th at Lord’s, becoming the first Indian opener to score multiple centuries at the ground.
Adil Rashid, the England leg-spinner, also praised Rahul’s batting, saying he looked class throughout the series. He added, He (KL Rahul) is often underestimated. This guy is class. His defence and attack are both top notch.

Across the five Tests against England, Rahul was India’s main man. He provided solid starts and played long innings. Experts spoke about his balance at the crease and his ability to handle the swinging ball. He scored 532 runs at 53.20 with two hundreds and two fifties.
With no Tests for India in August and September, KL Rahul will play in the two-Test series against West Indies in October. He will look to carry his form from the England tour.
