Mohammed Shami is not happy with the retirement rumors and requests. In a recent interview he asked who would benefit if he retires or why people see him as an obstacle.
Shami who was not picked for the Anderson-Tendulkar series in England said he will retire only when he loses interest in the game. Till then he will play domestic cricket or find other opportunities when he is not selected for international matches.
He directly challenged his critics, If someone has a problem, tell me. Whose life will become better if I retire? Why do you see me as a stone in your path that you want me to quit? He said he will leave when he’s had enough. If you don’t pick me, don’t play me, I don’t care, he said. But I will keep working hard. If you don’t pick me for international games, I will play domestic. I will keep playing somewhere. Retirement happens when you’re bored, when you don’t want to wake up early for a Test match. That’s not me right now. I’ll be up at 5 if you need me to.

Shami played in the ODI and T20I series against England earlier this year. But he was not picked for the 2025 Asia Cup which means he might not be part of the team’s plans for that format.
With ODIs being his last chance with the Indian team, Shami is looking to change the outcome from 2023 World Cup in 2027.
I have one dream left: to win the ODI World Cup, he said. I want to be on that team and help win it and bring it home. We were so close in 2023. We had a good feeling, but we also had a fear because we were winning all the time and it was the knockout stage. There was some fear. But the fans’ support kept us going. It was a dream we could have achieved but maybe it wasn’t meant to be.” Shami’s determination shows he’s not ready to hang up his boots just yet and is eager to contribute to India’s success in the future. His passion for the game and desire to win the World Cup still burns bright.
