Shreyas Iyer, SoBo Mumbai Falcons captain, didn’t point fingers after his team lost to Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals in the final of the Mumbai T20 League at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday (June 12). He said big games in front of big crowds can lead to mistakes but he has faith his teammates will bounce back next year. Shreyas scored 12 off 17 and the Falcons managed a below par 157/4 in their innings. Maratha Royals chased it down in the last over with 5 wickets to spare thanks to Chinmay Rajesh Sutar’s 53 and Awais Khan Naushad’s 38. This is Shreyas’s second final loss, he had finished runner up with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
After the match Shreyas said, “It’s pretty hectic playing two finals in 10 days, especially when you lose. It’s hard not to think about it. The crowd was amazing and the whole stadium was buzzing. Thanks to everyone for supporting us.”

He didn’t want to point out any particular mistake, “Overall the boys did great. We just lost this one game on our way to the final. It’s not fair to single anyone out; that doesn’t feel right. We learned a lot from this experience. Losing a final is tough and it hurts. But when we come back next year I believe they’ll have the motivation and confidence. They should be proud of what they achieved, especially since many of them were playing in front of 20,000 people for the first time. I’ve been there and I know how nerves can get to you. It’s a learning experience and I’m sure they’ll come back stronger.”
This was Shreyas’s second final loss after a successful two years where he won multiple titles including IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and Ranji Trophy among others.
