Before the Chennai Super Kings‘ last game of the season against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday, there was a lot of talk about whether this would be MS Dhoni’s last match. Dhoni hasn’t given any clear answers about his future and whether he’ll retire after IPL 2025. After CSK ended the season on a high note with an 83-run win over Gujarat, Dhoni mentioned that he has time to think about whether he wants to play another year.
Former Indian cricketer Murali Kartik pointed out that Dhoni shouldn’t stick around too long. “People love Dhoni. Just like we don’t want to see Amitabh Bachchan stop acting or want our sports legends like Roger Federer and Sachin Tendulkar to retire, there has to be a time when they step away,” Kartik said on Cricbuzz.
He noted that sometimes it’s hard to know when to call it quits: You don’t want to feel pushed into leaving, even from those who care about you.” Kartik used Kohli as an example, saying that while people might think he had more years to play, he knew in his heart it was time to go. “With MS, it’s tough to guess what he’s thinking. Is he doing this for the team? No one really knows.”

Kartik added, “He doesn’t let others know what he’s thinking. It’s tough for us to understand what’s going on in his mind.” This season was tough for CSK as they finished last in the rankings for the first time ever.
