Nicholas Pooran delivered another mind-blowing performance along with Obed McCoy and helped the West Indies thrash Afghanistan by 104 runs in their last group C match of the World Cup T20 2024. The West Indies chose to bat first and made a score of 219/5. At the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
Pooran became the highlight of the match, making record- breaking 36 runs in a single over against Afganistan. It included a remarkable set of boundaries and sixes off Azmatullah Omarzai’s bowling, helping the West Indies score a unique score in the T20 innings.
However, Afghanistan, while batting, kept losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually got all out at 114. For the West Indies, Obed McCoy took three wickets, followed by Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Moties taking 2 wickets each.
The West Indies have now moved on to the next round of the Super 8’s of the T20 World Cup unbeaten. They had a strong victory over Papua New Guinea by 5 wickets on June 2, then dominated Uganda with a 134 run victory on June 8.
They continued the victory train by winning against New Zealand by 13 runs on June 12 and on June 18 against Afghanistan. However, both Afghanistan and the West Indies are going to compete in the Super 8’s, which is their first step closer to the T20 World Cup title 2024
