Nita Ambani, the owner of the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians, congratulated the Indian team after they bagged the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 title. Under the captaincy of Niki Prasad, India beat South Africa by nine wickets at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, February 2, thus winning the age-group tournament for the second consecutive time. G. Trisha dismissed three South African batters for 15 runs respectively in the final and hit 44 runs with the bat to secure an unforgettable Indian triumph.
Extolling Team India’s game, Nita Ambani, an IOC member, said: “Champions again! Congratulations to our amazing Girls in Blue for winning the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup for the second consecutive year! What a phenomenal victory! Your resilience, love, talent, and dedication made all of us proud. You have proved to the world that India, Indian sports, and Indian women are truly unstoppable. Your stories and your journeys would be an inspiration for generations to come. Keep shining!”
South African skipper Reyneke opted to bowl first in the final match on Sunday, but that decision soon backfired as India’s three-pronged spin attack bowled them out for a paltry 82 runs in 20 overs.
Left-arm spinner Aayushi Shukla was the star with bowling figures at 4-2-9-2, and her fellow spinners Parunika Sisodia and Vaishanvi Sharma also accounted for the dismissal of two South African batters each.
For India with the bat, besides Trisha, vice-captain Sanika Chalke scored 26 runs off 22 balls and sealed the victory with a boundary on the second ball of the 12th over of the chase.
“It’s been two years that I’ve visualized this moment, and scoring the winning runs seems almost surreal. It was the support of my teammates that made all the difference, and it’s a moment I will never, ever forget,” said Sanika after the match.
In the 2025 edition, India won all the seven matches in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Trisha was given the Player of the Match award for her spectacular performance with both bat and ball, and she received the Player of the Tournament. She amassed a total of 307 runs and took 7 wickets in seven matches.
