Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Reddy was talking about things considering their team’s situation in the IPL for this season of 2025. Presently things do not look quite good, and Hyderabad rightly finds itself in a real scenario of life and death. To enhance the team spirit, perhaps Nitish would like to borrow the morale from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who had the window of turning the tables last season. At some time during the middle of the IPL 2024 schedule, they were languishing at the bottom but managed a resurgence for the crazy Fourth Place finish, qualifying for the playoffs.
Hyderabad broke Chennai Super Kings‘ two-match losing streak this week with a five-wicket victory; on the other hand, the Super Kings are suffering from yet another loss. Nitish couldn’t hold back his excitement after the victory and felt positive-looking ahead at the playoffs, feeling it was a matter of one game at a time, and were proud of the win, hoping to carry that on in the next games.
While speaking of his partnership with Kamindu Mendis during the game, Nitish asserted, “We decided appropriately on both our parts not to go for big shots all the time but to play a steady game.” Never mind last year, when RCB was in a similar situation but achieved seven consecutive wins. The question is, ‘Why not us this year?’ It’s about giving it your all and letting the chips fall where they may after that.”
As of now, Hyderabad is 8th on the points table with only six points from its nine games. Not that great; I mean, with only four points from those nine games, they are still ahead of the teams below them. Slow and steady for Chennai, who is at the bottom of the table. This has been their recent outing: their fourth consecutive loss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Now they have equaled records for the most home losses in one season, as seen during the IPL 2008 and IPL 2012 seasons.
In the recent game, Ishan Kishan made a good score of 44 from 34 balls, discounting a silly play against the Mumbai Indians; this time, he behaved maturely playing from the top order. The partnership between Nitish and Kamindu built a solid 49-run partnership, which indeed proved vital in securing these two points.
With only six points from nine games, Hyderabad knows they have playoff chances by a thread. Really, they need to win all their remaining five matches and should do it handsomely to finish with at least 16 points. The next challenge is scheduled against Gujarat Titans on May 2, where they hope to ride through the momentum on Titans’ home turf.
