In 1992: After many last-ball thrillers and stellar performances, cricket’s rivalry between India and Pakistan has remained the fiercest in history. One such iconic moment, which took place on this day (March 4), during a 1992 World Cup game between India and Pakistan in Sydney, is etched in the memories of fans.
Javed Miandad’s mimicry of Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More emerged as one of the outstanding moments in cricketing history during the long-standing rivalry between India and Pakistan. Exalted for his classy batting style, Miandad was one of the most dependable backs for Pakistan during his playing days.
He is best remembered now, however, for his iconic and dramatic outburst both on and off the field!
Whatever happened on this iconic occasion took place in the India-Pakistan match during the 1992 World Cup-the first such match for both nations in the World Cup.
Through Stoic knocks from Sachin Tendulkar and Ajay Jadeja, respectively scoring 54 not out and 46 runs, India managed, at a loss of 7 wickets, to reach a fighting total of 216.
Pakistan’s pursuit of the total was not easy on a pitch that did not offer them too much. After Inzamam-ul-Haq was dismissed, however, Aamer Sohail and Javed Miandad still laid on 88 runs for the third wicket to stabilize the innings.

In the course of his innings, Javed Miandad had a well-publicized confrontation with Kiran More. The Indian ‘keeper appealed for an LBW against a delivery by Tendulkar-the ball having hardly pitched and after Miandad had missed it by quite some distance.
In his knock, Javed Miandad had an altercation with Kiran More. The Indian wicketkeeper made an appeal to the umpire on a ball bowled by Sachin Tendulkar. Miandad apparently missed an attempted hook to affix his eyes on the level when the ball went down.
Then Javed Miandad moved back as Sachin Tendulkar was due to bowl, complaining to the umpire about Kiran More’s spat. It did not take long for him to do so as Miandad ambled in the direction of cover intent on taking a single, only to find More trying to run him out, forcing him to scramble back within his crease.
Seeing his appeal for an out, Javed Miandad jumped into the air with his bat held aloft, a move that was undertaken with a mind to make fun of the Indian keeper. This occurrence falls within the purview of cricket history.
Years later, Kiran More disclosed while commenting during a match that Miandad had mocked him for his continuous appeals.
