There’s a real stir going on in the cricket community right now. A former captain from Pakistan is in hot water over a scandal tied to Mughiz Ahmed Sheikh, who’s in trouble himself after being suspended. The report from Cricket Pakistan hasn’t named this former captain yet but hints that he’s quite a big deal in the national cricket scene.
The allegation is that this ex-captain had a hand in persuading some young cricketers to sign contracts with Sheikh’s agency, the International Cricketers Association (ICA). It’s rumored that he has some pretty close ties to this agency, which is raising eyebrows.
This whole mess came to light when Sheikh got busted for several violations of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) anti-corruption rules, leading to his ban. Apparently, he was trying to bribe a coach in England to get his players into the team. Thankfully, the coach did the right thing and reported Sheikh, which kicked off a thorough investigation.

After looking into the situation, an independent anti-corruption tribunal found Sheikh guilty of four major breaches of the ECB’s rules. As of now, we’re still waiting for the tribunal to decide how long his ban will last, but the ECB has already pulled the plug on his registration as a player agent.
In the wake of this controversy, several well-known Pakistani players are stepping back from the ICA. Young stars like Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Huraira, Irfan Niazi, Mohammad Ali, and Usama Mir have all decided to distance themselves from Sheikh’s agency. It’s gonna be interesting to see how this all unfolds and what impact it will have on these players and Pakistan cricket as a whole.
