Having levelled the Test series and bagged the T20I series, Pakistan is now all set to invite South Africa over for the ODI series consisting of three matches. Though the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is still almost two years away, the series would work as a primary guide for both sides to carve out their ODI characters and testing their bench strength in the run-up to global confrontations.
Pakistan sees the series as a golden opportunity to showcase their newly appointed fast-bowler Shaheen Afridi wearing the full-time ODI captaincy crown over wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. The squad of 16 players has a good mix of seasoned campaigns like Babar Azam, T20I captain Salman Agha, explosive opener Fakhar Zaman, fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah among others and newcomers who have a lot of potentials.
The South African side recently achieved great success in the ODI series and conquered Australia and England, thus, forgetting their unsuccessful participation in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy early this year. The team led by Matthew Breetzke will be without the recovering Temba Bavuma but has welcomed the first-time return of Quinton de Kock in ODIs since he reversed his international retirement. The pace bowling unit of South Africa will be led by the experienced Lungi Ngidi along with Nandre Burger and Lizaad Williams.
