The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Thursday that Pakistani batsman Haider Ali is under investigation in England. This came as Greater Manchester Police reported an arrest related to a rape accusation.
According to the PCB, the inquiry involving cricketer Haider Ali is related to an incident that happened during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the report. Police received a rape report on Monday, August 4, 2025. The incident allegedly happened on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Manchester. We have arrested a 24-year-old man, who has since been bailed as the inquiry continues, the police said. It’s normal for British police not to name individuals at this stage of an inquiry.
The PCB responded by confirming the inquiry involving Haider Ali and suspended him temporarily. The PCB is aware of the inquiry by the Greater Manchester Police involving cricketer Haider Ali. The inquiry is related to an incident that happened during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England, the board said.
The PCB respects the UK laws and will allow the inquiry to proceed properly. Therefore, the PCB has decided to suspend Haider Ali till the inquiry is over, with immediate effect, while waiting for the outcome.
The PCB won’t comment further till the inquiry is over. They will provide Haider with lawyers to represent him during this process.
Since his debut in 2020, Ali has played 35 T20Is and 2 ODIs for Pakistan.
Sources confirmed that the Greater Manchester Police took Haider’s passport and then bailed him. This is standard procedure to prevent any flight risk while the inquiry is ongoing. The police are gathering all the information, which can include statements from witnesses, forensic data and any other evidence related to the accusation. Haider will cooperate with the authorities as part of the inquiry. The PCB is monitoring the situation and will respect the laws and ensure the player’s rights are protected.

Haider’s agent refused to comment on the allegations but said Haider is fully cooperating with the police to clear his name. The agent said Haider knows the gravity of the matter and will address the allegations through the right channels. The location of the incident in Manchester is not disclosed but local sources say it’s a private residence. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to come forward and help the inquiry.
