Star cricketer Virat Kohli has made it to the IPL final three times but hasn’t taken home the trophy yet. As he gears up for the 2025 season, Piyush Chawla took a look at Kohli’s performance in T20 cricket. There’s been a lot of talk about his strike rate over the years, with some former players questioning his approach. But Kohli hasn’t let that bother him; he’s come through for the team often, including in the 2024 T20 World Cup final.
Piyush pointed out that having a solid anchor player is key, and Kohli fills that role well. He shared some impressive stats, mentioning that a strike rate of 130 or 140 isn’t bad for someone in Kohli’s position. “He’s always there for his team. If you check the numbers, they do the talking. We often discuss strike rates, but his is consistently above 130, which is great for a player like him. The team needs someone to hold one end, and if that’s Kohli doing it at a strike rate around 130, that’s really good,” Piyush told ANI.
Still, he thinks Kohli will feel some pressure in the upcoming season. Piyush explained that players like him carry their reputations onto the field, and Kohli won’t want to let that slip in 2025. “When Virat steps onto the field, he gives over 200 percent. He gives it his all and is always pumped to do something great for his team. And about the pressure? It’s there for everyone—whether you’re still playing or have retired from T20s, you’re always thinking about your name and reputation. So, Virat knows there’s pressure, and he probably feels those butterflies in his stomach,” he added.
