Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, acknowledged that while his team showed some good moments during the 2025 IPL season, they just couldn’t make the most of their opportunities and that cost them a shot at the playoffs. Their season was pretty up and down, with some close losses that really hurt their rhythm.
“We talked about playing good cricket, and we’ve shown that we can do it at times. There were moments when we had the chance to reach the playoffs but just didn’t take them. That’s part of the game,” Pant said after their 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans.
He pointed out how injuries impacted the team, particularly to some key bowlers, which left them a bit short. They started the season without Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav. Though they brought in Shardul Thakur during the season, and Avesh and Akash came back, Mayank only played in two games before getting sidelined again.

“We had a lot of injury worries going into the tournament, but we didn’t want to make excuses,” Pant said. “The batting unit was there, but our fielding could have been better. We just want to learn from this and move forward.”
In their match against the top team, Gujarat Titans, LSG had a standout performance. Mitchell Marsh hit his first IPL century, and Nicholas Pooran scored his fifth half-century of the season, helping LSG secure a 33-run win. With LSG already out of the tournament, this win was more of a consolation for them.
Batting first, LSG put up a big score of 235 for 2, thanks to Marsh’s 117 off 64 balls, which included 10 fours and 8 sixes. Pooran also contributed with a quick 56 off 27 balls, as they combined for a 121-run partnership for the second wicket. Marsh really punished GT’s spinner Rashid Khan, scoring 25 runs in one over, reaching his century in just 56 balls.
Earlier, Marsh and Aiden Markram, who made 36 runs, had a solid 91-run opening partnership. “The key was getting their top three out early. Shahrukh looked good for them, but we knew we had enough runs to defend. Our bowlers did really well to stay focused,” Pant added.
