Uthappa revealed how a Karnataka teammate created trouble between him and Karun Nair.
Uthappa said he made a general comment in an interview. Then the teammate told Nair it was about him. Uthappa was just venting because he wasn’t picked for the India team even though he was playing well. He played 99 of his 142 First-Class matches for Karnataka. In 2017, he left and played for Saurashtra and Kerala.
Uthappa also spoke about why he left Karnataka on the ‘First Umpire’ podcast, as The Indian Express reported.

I wanted to play Test cricket then. I was annoyed because I was doing well but wasn’t even in the running. I guess I let my feelings show. I said in the interview that Test caps were too easy to get. Some people needed to work for them instead of just getting them handed out, Robin Uthappa said.
Someone on our team took that part of the interview and told Karun Nair that I was talking about him. Karun Nair was like a little brother to me, but he iced me out because he was close to getting a Test cap. He didn’t ask me about it and just believed it. A few days later, some drama started. The interview was in Bombay, and the media there likes to make Bombay look good in domestic cricket. So, they made it sound like I was talking about Karun. Karun believed it and stayed away from me, he added.
Uthappa also said that there was a coordinated attack against him, making him look like he was causing problems in the team.
I told them that if anyone thought I was harming the team, they should speak up, and I would leave right away. No one did, but I knew then that it was planned because I had become the players’ spokesperson, he said.
After that, I tried to give it my all. I really did try, but it didn’t work out. I was emotionally drained, he added.
