Ishan Kishan is really working hard to get back into the Indian cricket team. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) left him out of its annual contract list because he missed some domestic matches for Jharkhand. This decision sparked a lot of debates, especially since he had pulled out of India’s tour of South Africa partway through, saying he was tired from traveling.
Ishan later opened up about that challenging time in his career. He made a promise to himself to focus on the present and keep giving it his all. Fast forward to 2024, and he found himself released by the Mumbai Indians before the big auction. Luckily for him, the Sunrisers Hyderabad snatched him up for a whopping Rs 11.25 crore.
There was a lot of excitement about how he would fit into the already strong batting lineup of SRH, which included players like Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Travis Head. Ishan made sure to live up to the hype; on his debut for SRH in IPL 2025, he scored a fantastic century in a thrilling match that his team ended up winning.
In a chat with JioHotstar, Ishan shared his first thoughts on joining SRH. “I was really close to Mumbai Indians because I spent seven years with them. But when I joined SRH, I got chills; everywhere I looked was orange! It’s such a fresh experience. The vibe here is completely different from what I expected. There’s a sense of calm and clarity, and everyone has been super helpful. I am really enjoying it here,” he expressed.
So far in this season with SRH, Ishan has scored 136 runs in just six innings, boasting an impressive strike rate of 174.35. When asked about who his favorite player was growing up and who it is now, Ishan said, “I never really had just one favorite. I looked up to a bunch of them. When I was 18, I admired Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar. Currently, I really like Virat Kohli.”
Ishan also mentioned some of his favorite teammates at SRH, naming Abhishek Sharma, Abhinav Manohar, and Zeeshan Ansari as his pals on the team.
On a lighter note, when the topic turned to his favorite food, Ishan didn’t hesitate: “Biryani! It’s my go-to. No matter where I am, if I’m feeling good, I order biryani. And if things aren’t great? Yup, I still go for biryani!”
