Rohit Sharma has made quite a name for himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He’s the guy with the most titles under his belt, having won a total of six championships. It all started back in 2009 when he snagged a title with the Deccan Chargers. After that, he truly made his mark by leading the Mumbai Indians, winning the tournament five times while being the captain in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. That makes him one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
He joined Mumbai Indians during the mega auction in 2011, and since then, he’s been a key player for the team. When he chatted with MI recently, he was asked how things have evolved since he first donned the MI colors. Rohit had some thoughtful insights about his journey. He remarked that a lot has changed since he started. For one, he used to bat in the middle order, but now he’s opening the innings. He also used to be the captain back then, but he mentioned he wasn’t at that moment. Some of his old teammates from those championship-winning days have transitioned into coaching roles now, so it’s quite different in that regard.

Despite the shifts in roles and dynamics, Rohit emphasized that his core mindset hasn’t changed. He still aims to win games and snag trophies, which is really what the Mumbai Indians are all about. He reminisced about how over the years, the team has managed to pull off victories from situations where nobody expected them to. That’s the spirit of MI, and it embodies what Mumbai is all about.
He went on to share a relatable detail that warms the heart. No matter how much time passes, when he checks into his room, it’s always just the way it was back in 2011. He sees his kit bag, his suitcase filled with jerseys, and all the other essentials neatly laid out. Despite the passage of 15 years, that welcoming routine hasn’t changed, and he hopes it never will. Rohit mentioned how important it is to him that the moment you arrive, there’s always someone ready to greet you with a big smile. That bright and cheerful welcome has been a constant throughout his time with the team.
Furthermore, he noted how the team room has been designed with care – everyone’s name, their jersey number, and those motivational phrases are all up on display. It reflects the camaraderie and tradition of the club, and he appreciates that it has remained unchanged. That’s the kind of stability that he values as he continues his journey with the Mumbai Indians.
