Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma along with his team mates Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer are all set to miss Mumbai’s next match against Meghalaya . The match is going to commence on January 30 in Mumbai.
As per the sources all the three players are going to feature in bcci’s annual Naman awards in Mumbai which is scheduled to take place on February 1 after which the trio is expected to report on February 2 for team India’s one day series which is going to start from February 6.
“Rohit, Shreyas and Yashasvi are going to miss the upcoming match against Meghalaya as they are going to participate in Bcci’s Naman awards which is going to take place in Mumbai on February 1. After which they are expected to report on February 2 in Nagpur ahead of team India’s ODI assignment against England”, said source.
Not only these three players but Mumbai will also miss the services of Shivam Dube who’s been called as the replacement of Nitish Kumar Reddy in team India’s T20I squad.
Iyer has been featured for Mumbai’s Ranji team since the first game however both Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the set-up after Bcci’s strict diktat which asked international players to play the domestic tournaments if fit and available.
The openers failed to put on a show for Mumbai’s team as Rohit Sharma scored 3 and 28 across the two innings and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored only 4 and 26. Mumbai’s batting failed to perform across the two innings and on both the occasion they were saved by Shardul Thakur who was in good touch.
Mumbai is third in the Ranji 2024-25 Elite Group A standings, with three wins from six matches. With only the top two sides qualifying for the knockouts, Mumbai’s chance will depend on them beating Meghalaya, ideally with a bonus point, and depending on either Baroda losing to Jammu and Kashmir or conceding a first innings lead if the match ends in a draw.
