Rohit Sharma might not be part of the Indian Test team for the series against England later this year. According to reports from India Today, the Indian captain is considering sitting this one out following his poor performance during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On the bright side, it looks like Virat Kohli will likely keep his place in the team. Both players had a rough time while playing in Australia, and to make things even tougher for Rohit, he missed the New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Rohit wasn’t on the field for the first Test at the Perth Stadium, where Jasprit Bumrah stepped up as captain. Though he returned for the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval, his batting hasn’t been up to standard. Over three games, he managed to score just 31 runs, which averages out to a mere 6.20. After missing the Sydney Test, there was quite a bit of chatter about him possibly retiring. But Rohit has been clear that he’s not planning to say goodbye to Test cricket just yet. He explained, This is not a decision about retirement. I’m not walking away from the game. I chose to step back because I wasn’t scoring runs. There’s no way to know if I’ll score runs in two months or five months.
He went on to express his view on how life can change rapidly, saying, I’ve been around cricket long enough, and every moment, every day brings something new. I’m hoping things will turn around, but I have to keep it real too. The folks in the commentary box or those typing away can’t dictate the course of my life.

Virat, on the other hand, did manage to score a century in the second innings of the Perth Test, but didn’t hit any major scores beyond that. Both Rohit and Virat returned to form in the Ranji Trophy, although neither of them quite set the stage on fire there either.
Still, they found their rhythm again and made a strong comeback by helping India claim victory in the Champions Trophy held in Dubai. Rohit’s match-winning 76 in the final was a highlight, while Virat chipped in with impressive scores of 100 not out and 84 against Pakistan and Australia, respectively.
India’s tour of England kicks off on June 20, with the first Test taking place at Headingley in Leeds. Following that, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and Kennington Oval will host the remaining four Tests. It’s shaping up to be an interesting series for the team, and fans are hopeful to see how it all unfolds.
