Virat Kohli boasts over 9000 runs and eight centuries in Test cricket and thus is regarded as one of India’s finest of all time. While Rohit has scored fewer runs and centuries, he, too, has carved out a reputation in the format. Let’s see three things that Rohit has done in Test cricket which Kohli hasn’t.
Test hundred on debut
First, Rohit came in and hit a dazzling 177 against West Indies at Eden Gardens when India was tottering at 82 for 4 in 2013. His stout innings helped India wade through. This is actually the second-highest score by an Indian on Test debut-ahead is Shikhar Dhawan’s 187. In comparison, Kohli barely got going-in his debut-first-class game, he got 4 and 15 against the same side in 2011.
All centuries came in wins
Second, Rohit has this curious record: India has won all 12 Tests in which he has scored a thousand runs. So he has a 100 percent success rate when he reaches three figures. Kohli, on the other hand, has 30 centuries and has experienced seven losses and nine draws in the matches where he hit a hundred.
Opener to score hundred in both the innings of a test match
Finally, in October 2019, against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, Rohit became one of the rare openers to score twin centuries in a Test, compiling 176 and 127 in the two innings of the match-champion performance that justified his reputation as a Test opener. Kohli did score twin hundreds against Australia at Adelaide in 2014, but he was not opening the batting then.
