Sajid Khan, Pakistan’s top spinner, has a broken thumb. The 31-year-old was in UK with Pakistan Shaheens for their short tour of England. He got injured during training at Onbridge School Ground in Kent.
Geo Super reports that scans confirmed a fracture in his right thumb. This happened a day before Pakistan Shaheens’ first match against Professional County Club Select XI. Sajid has been asked to return to Pakistan soon for treatment at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. PCB hasn’t announced who will replace Sajid.
Sajid is a key Test bowler for Pakistan. This is a big blow for Shaheens and Pakistan. Sajid and Noman were a strong pair. Shan Masood’s team was struggling in Tests for a while. They were on the verge of losing another Test series at home when they were 0-1 down in the three-Test series against England in October 2024.

Pakistan brought in Sajid and Noman for the second and third Tests. This change worked and they won the remaining two games and the series. Sajid and Noman took all 20 wickets in the second game. Sajid was player of the series.
Sajid’s availability for Pakistan’s next tour is uncertain. Sajid only plays Test cricket. Pakistan starts their new WTC cycle in October when South Africa, the champions, visit.
There are two months to go for the tour. Sajid should be ready for the big series against South Africa.
