Gill has scored over 600 runs in 6 innings on this England tour. He is the highest run scorer for India in this Test series in England. But he scored just 22 runs in the Lord’s Test, 16 in the first innings and 6 in the second. He looked unsure in the second innings and got out to Brydon Carse.
Sanjay Manjrekar spoke about Gill on X. He said Gill was struggling because the English players were tough on him in the second innings. This was England’s reaction to Gill’s behavior towards Zak Crawley which created stress at Lord’s.
Manjrekar said Gill needs to figure out what works for him. He pointed out that Virat Kohli did well when the other team went after him but Dhoni was different. So Gill needs to decide whether being aggressive helps him or not and change his approach accordingly.

Manjrekar’s words suggest that Gill shouldn’t be too aggressive if it hurts his focus. Gill is new to captaincy but he has had some good results with his batting. India won a Test at Edgbaston. So Gill will continue with his approach and Lord’s isn’t the first time he has shown anger on the field.
He has been aggressive in previous Test matches and it will be interesting to see how he grows as a captain and batsman later on.
