Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson endured a tough phase in IPL 2025, scoring 285 runs in 9 games at a strike rate of 140.39, including a fifty against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. His team ended up ninth on the points table this season with a mere four wins, just above the Chennai Super Kings. Samson limped out of five matches due to injury, and Riyan Parag turned captain for the rest, but it didn’t really alter their fortunes.
Recently, some social media posts by the fan base generated a little buzz about what’s in store for Samson with the Royals. The post spoke of a situation similar to what happened with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant at Delhi Capitals, alluding to Yashasvi Jaiswal wanting the captaincy for himself. The post claimed, “Sanju Samson is set to leave Rajasthan Royals. He’s talking to two franchises in need of an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. With Jaiswal wanting the captaincy, RR might have to consider that.”
While this news cannot be confirmed, the chance of Samson leaving the Royals looks highly unlikely before 2027 as he is still a working captain and the next big auction is not expected before after the 2027 season. Plus, if the Royals really thought about changing captains, they could have done that while Samson was away injured; with Parag seemingly being the frontrunner for the captaincy at the moment.
