India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill has announced that the team will have a 10-day camp in London and an intra-squad game to get ready for the 5-Test series against England. Right now the India A team is already in the UK playing practice matches. Gill along with head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke at a press conference before the team heads to England for the series starting June 20.
The India A team is playing the England Lions and the rest of the team will fly out soon. During the press conference Gill spoke about the plan for the camp and intra-squad game to get everyone ready to play with the red ball before the long series against England. We have a 10-day camp in London, one intra-squad game and we still have time to figure out the batting order, he said.
Most of the 18-member squad has just finished the 2-month long IPL 2025, so getting some practice with the red ball will help them adjust before the first match starts on June 20. Interestingly Gill didn’t reveal anything about the batting order. This will be the first time in several years that India plays a Test series without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shubman knows those are big shoes to fill so he wants to take his time to make a well thought out decision.
When the squad for the England tour was announced, chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah might not be available for all 5 Tests. Gambhir confirmed this saying Bumrah will be managed carefully and will only play in a few selected matches. The team will decide based on results and how the series goes as to when Bumrah should rest.
