Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is confident that the BCCI will restart the suspended IPL 2025 in about a week. He mentioned that the board handled things well during the COVID-19 break in 2021, which shows they can manage this situation too. IPL 2025 was put on hold last Friday due to the situation between India and Pakistan, with the BCCI stating that the country’s safety comes first, especially after a terror attack.
There had been doubts about the tournament’s future after the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was canceled on Thursday because of air raid alerts nearby. Ganguly noted that despite the challenges faced in 2020 and 2021, the IPL was successfully finished. He believes the BCCI is capable enough to complete IPL 2025, even if it means extending the tournament by a week.
When asked about how they make sure the IPL happens during tough times, Ganguly pointed out that this situation isn’t as bad as the COVID-19 years. He emphasized that during COVID, the matches went on following government guidelines.
The BCCI has officially confirmed the suspension of IPL 2025, and players are set to head home for now. The tournament was originally scheduled to end on May 25 in Kolkata, and the BCCI plans to hold the last 16 matches later when the time is right. There’s talk that September might work if the Asia Cup doesn’t happen. The BCCI made it clear that while cricket is important, it can’t take priority over the nation’s safety and stability.
