An important press conference was held one day before the WTC final as the South African skipper, Temba Bavuma, announced the playing XI for the team. The Proteas decided to field Lungi Ngidi as the third pacer, thereby leaving Corbin Bosch and Dane Paterson out. Both Bosch and Paterson performed exceedingly well in the buildup to the final, but the South African cricketing set-up preferred to go with Ngidi, given his experience against Australia.
Ngidi will be with Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, with Wiaan Mulder functioning as the fourth seam bowler. At the same time, Keshav Maharaj will be the sole spinner in the scenario.
On the batting side, Ryan Rickelton has been preferred to open with Aiden Markram at the expense of Tony de Zorzi. Rickelton has remained in the side due to his steady form and, in fact, scored a double hundred in his last Test against Pakistan. The middle order will see famous names such as Tristan Stubbs and skipper Temba Bavuma. Mulder and Jansen will be the all-rounders, with Mulder to bat at number three, though Stubbs has also been able to do this.
