The Sri Lankan selectors have made an interesting choice by picking 6 uncapped players for the 18 member squad for the 2 match Test series against Bangladesh. This is the start of the new WTC cycle and even with the new faces they have kept a good mix of experienced players.
The Galle Test is a special one as it’s Angelo Mathews last Test and they haven’t named a replacement for him for the second Test yet. Also they had to pull out experienced pacer Lahiru Kumara from the squad due to an injury he picked up in practice.
A bold move from the selectors is to include 6 new faces: Lahiru Udara, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Sonal Dinusha, Pawan Ratnayake, Tharindu Ratnayake and Isitha Wijesundara. Even with all these changes they have kept the main batting lineup almost the same. Pathum Nissanka will open and you can expect Dinesh Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva to handle the middle order.

In the pace department Asitha Fernando and Kasun Rajitha will have to step up without Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando. Prabath Jayasuriya will lead the spin attack with Akila Dananjaya by his side.
The first Test starts on June 17 at the Galle International Stadium and the second Test will be at SSC in Colombo.
