Sunil Joshi, the Punjab Kings spin coach, spoke of Yuzvendra Chahal and his performance during IPL 2025. Chahal had a bad beginning to the tournament where he could take only two wickets in five matches, and many started to wonder if he was out of touch. But his recent brilliance showed that he still had some sparks left in him when he came back with a brilliant four-wicket performance against KKR while PBKS defended a below-average total of 111 runs at the Mullanpur ground.
Joshi stated that Chahal would not need reminding about his prowess since he is the IP League’s all-time highest wicket-taker. He should know the way to come back. Furthermore, speaking to reporters ahead of Punjab’s match against KKR on April 26 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Joshi said, “You know Yuzi is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Players who shine in big matches don’t need anyone telling them what they can do. They know how to make their mark. It all comes down to confidence and putting the ball in the right place on the field.”
So far in this season, Chahal’s appearances have reached 8, with 9 wickets to his name with a high economy rate of 9.30. But there is hope that he can bounce back into his old rhythm. Joshi also had some good things to say about Shreyas Iyer, who he reckoned has really brushed up his game now; really good performances are coming from his side across formats. “Just look at Shreyas’ performances in the past few months, especially after Champions Trophy. He has improved tremendously against pace and spin,” commented Joshi. “He wants to win and is ready to meet any challenge that comes his way.”
Shreyas has indeed been a potential match-winner for PBKS this season, and with 263 runs from eight matches at a phenomenal average of 43.83 and strike rate of 185.21, he has made a huge impression. The Kings currently find themselves in fifth position in the points table with 10 points, as they have won five out of their nine matches thus far with a net run rate of +0.177. An interesting season awaits for PBKS with brilliant performances from players Chahal and Iyer!
