Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of Bangladesh’s cricket team, faced a serious health scare on Monday when he had a heart attack. Thankfully, he is on the mend, but doctors are closely monitoring his condition. They mentioned that the next couple of days are pretty important in figuring out how he’s really doing.
By Tuesday, doctors said his heart function was looking alright, which is reassuring news. After undergoing an angioplasty, Tamim is being advised to take it easy for now. He was unexpectedly taken to Savar Hospital right after he fell ill during a Dhaka Premier League match, and health officials paid him a visit on Tuesday to check in on him.
Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, who heads the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, spoke to the press about Tamim’s situation. He emphasized the need for caution over the next three days, noting that while the chance of complications is low—under 1%—even a slight risk can be serious for Tamim. Chowdhury mentioned, He’s a national treasure for us, which highlights how much Tamim is valued.
Chowdhury urged Tamim to keep conversations to a minimum, relax more, and avoid any excitement to help with his recovery. He explained that while Tamim could do some light activities at home, it might take about three months before he can return to the kind of sports activities he’s used to.
On a positive note, Tamim took to Facebook to express his gratitude for all the support he received during this tough time. He shared, Thanks to Allah and all your prayers, I have come back. I feel lucky to have such wonderful people around me when I needed help. This message shows how touched he is by the love and care from friends, family, and fans alike.
Doctors also confirmed that he was awake and even managed to chat with a family member following the emergency procedure. When he had the heart attack, Tamim was in the middle of leading his team, the Mohammedan Sporting Club, in a game against Shinepukur Cricket Club but only got to play one over before he fell ill.
It’s a hard moment for Tamim and his supporters, but it’s looking like he’s on the right track to recovery, with everyone rallying around him during this challenging time.
