Tilak Varma, the talented Indian batter, is set to join Hampshire for four County Championship matches starting with the away game against Essex. Hampshire announced this on Wednesday and are excited to have the 22-year-old from Hyderabad in their squad for the upcoming games.
Tilak has played 29 games for India, mostly in T20Is, and has scored 749 runs with two centuries and three fifties – one of which was 72* against England at the start of this year. Giles White, Hampshire’s Director of Cricket, said, “It’s great to have Tilak with us for these games. He’s made a big impact internationally and in the IPL so we’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to the team this summer.
Tilak is a T20 specialist and has played for Mumbai Indians, scoring 1499 runs in 54 games with eight fifties and an average of 37.47. In red ball cricket he has played 18 First-Class games and has represented India A in the Duleep Trophy and against England Lions. He has scored 1204 runs in First-Class cricket with five centuries and four fifties at an average of 50.16.

Hampshire are currently 7th in the Rothesay County Championship Division One. Last summer they finished 2nd – their best finish since 2005.
