The World Test Championship is being held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England. South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to have Australia bat first. Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja started the innings but couldn’t get a single run in the first three overs. Then Kagiso Rabada rocked Australia by taking two wickets in his first over, sending Khawaja (0) and Cameron Green (0) back to the pavilion in the 7th over.
After losing those two wickets for just 16 runs, Labuschagne tried to steady things with Steve Smith but Marco Jansen struck again, getting Labuschagne out for 17. Travis Head came in next but couldn’t do much, getting out to Jansen in the 24th over for 11. Although he wasn’t great, Head managed to surpass Rohit Sharma and Kumar Sangakkara in ICC finals runs.
Before this WTC final, Head had scored 318 runs in three innings in ICC finals and when he scored 3 here, he went past Sangakkara for most runs in ICC finals. After scoring 6, he also went past Sharma and became the second highest run scorer in ICC finals. Now he has 339 runs in 4 innings and is eyeing Virat Kohli’s record. Kohli has the highest runs in ICC finals with 411 runs in 11 innings. Head needs 83 more runs to break that record. If he has a big innings in the second innings, he can definitely make history.
Here are the most runs in ICC finals:
– 411 – Virat Kohli (11 innings)
– 339 – Travis Head (4 innings)
– 322 – Rohit Sharma (11 innings)
– 320 – Kumar Sangakkara (7 innings)
– 270 – Mahela Jayawardene (7 innings)
