One of the most talented batters from the associate nation Aaron Jones has expressed his desire to feature in the world’s toughest T20 league (IPL ) in the near future.
Jones made a big name for himself as an opening batsman for the USA cricket team during the T20 World Cup of 2024. He has set his aspirations also for a future goal to someday play in the Indian Premier League. This is certainly good news for cricket lovers. He has had a brilliant World Cup, scoring 162 runs at a strike rate of 135, making it very clear that he knows how to swing the bat. He has also played some big innings with the highlight being 94 runs against Canada, proving how talented this guy is.
Aaron is a right-hand batsman and bowls a bit of leg spin now and then. He started his List A career way back in January 2016 when he appeared before the Leeward Islands in this season’s Regional Super50 tournament. October 2017 marked Aaron’s entry into first-class cricket as he represented Barbados in the Regional Four Day Competition.
Having kept climbing the ladder, he was selected in October 2018 to the USA squad that went to compete at the ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament in Oman. Sure enough, Aaron was KO’d by this tournament, becoming the leading run-scorer for his side, amassing 200 runs in five matches. This was all very well recognized when he was brought into the USA’s Twenty20 International squad against the United Arab Emirates in February 2019; making it by the way the first time that the USA cricket team played T20 internationals. Although most consider Jones’s T20I debut to have been against the UAE on March 15, 2019.
Earlier in his career, he was signed up by the Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League, a franchise owned by the Punjab Kings from the IPL. It is great to see recognition coming his way and he will not be the first associate nation player to make it to the IPL. Over the years, this highly talented league has included most of these names: David Wiese, Roelof van der Merwe, Tim David, Sandeep Lamichhane, Dirk Nannes, and Ryan ten Doeschate.
With such good form coupled with skills Aaron’s been showing, it is not hard to believe that he might get a call from an IPL franchise soon. The future appears promising as he builds up his game with lofty expectations from cricket fans riding along with him. And here’s hoping we will shortly see him playing in the IPL!
