On Thursday, February 20, Kohli will be back in action for India against their arch-rivals, Bangladesh, in Dubai. The Champions Trophy 2025 match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium is of prime importance for Team India, currently perched at No. 1 in ICC ODI Team Rankings, with Kohli at the forefront. The 36-year-old right-hander is bolstered with good form, having scored 52 runs against England in the third and final ODI of the bilateral home series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
On 12 February, Kohli appeared in tremendous touch and would be looking to pick up from where he left off at home. Against Bangladesh in the Group A match, Kohli will have a chance to make history. Kohli will become the fastest man to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket if he manages to score at least 37 runs on Thursday in Dubai.
The former India captain has scored 13,963 runs so far in 297 ODIs. He is 37 runs shy of breaking the world record of Sachin Tendulkar for the fastest to 14,000 runs in ODIs. Tendulkar, who finished his career with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs, made his ODI 14,000th run in the 350th inning of 378th ODI match against Pakistan in Peshawar on February 6, 2006.

So far, only two batters in the world have crossed the 14,000-run mark in ODI cricket. Kohli has had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the greats and join the elite list having batted 285 times in 297 completed ODI matches.
In addition to that, Kohli will also etch his name in history books on Thursday if he scores at least 90 runs. Kohli is India’s leading run scorer in ODIs against Bangladesh. In 16 matches played so far, he has hammered 910 runs with the help of five centuries and three fifties. If he scores 90 more runs, he will become the first Indian to score 1000 runs in 50-over matches against the Bangladeshi team.
If Kohli scores a big century on Thursday, then he will also have a chance to overtake Ricky Ponting and become the third leading run scorer in international cricket. As of now, Kohli has 27,381 runs to his name in 545 matches played across formats, whereas Ponting finished his career with 27,483 runs in 560 matches.
