Post a rough stint at the recent IPL 2025, all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin stepped in the arena for the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Ashwin, who went to the 2025 edition as a Chennai Super Kings player, had a below-par campaign, bagging just seven wickets and 33 runs in nine matches. Now aged 38, he is back to captain Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL.
But things erupted on Sunday in a match against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. The incident occurred in the 5th over, when the Dragons were batting. Ashwin was adjudged LBW after the ball struck his pads, but he stood his ground, claiming the ball had pitched outside leg stun; the umpire, however, did not accept his argument, and Ashwin walked back after scoring 18. As he left, Ashwin expressed his frustration by slamming his bat against his pads.

Tiruppur had the better night bowling-wise, dismissing the Dragons for a mere 93 runs. Esakkimuthu A grabbed four wickets with Mathivannan taking three and his skipper Sai Kishore, two. Tiruppur reached this target in 11.5 overs, picking crucial two points, thanks to a sterling 65-run knock from Tushar Raheja, which came off just 39 balls.
The win was Tiruppur’s first of the season following their opener loss to Chepauk Super Gillies. Going down the opposite lane, the Dragons had earlier enjoyed a comfortable 7-wicket win over Lyca Kovai Kings. Ashwin had come under fire for most of his IPL 2025 performances, where the five-time champions ended up last on the points chart with 4 wins in 14 league matches.
