Before the first Test against England at Leeds, India’s promising batsman Sai Sudharsan spoke about how Washington Sundar, his fellow Tamil Nadu player, has been his inspiration. Sundar has been a big motivation for Sudharsan as he looks to make his mark in international cricket. The Test match starting June 20 could be a big moment for the 23-year-old who has already played three ODIs and a T20I for India, scored two half-centuries in South Africa.
Recently Sudharsan won the Orange Cap for most runs and also the ‘Emerging Player’ award in the IPL while playing for the Gujarat Titans, scoring 759 runs in 16 innings, including a century and six half-centuries. While Sundar made his first-class debut at 17 in 2016, Sudharsan debuted at 21. Before his IPL success, Sudharsan played in the Tamil Nadu Premier League where he is one of the top run-scorers with 1,303 runs in 30 innings at an average of 43.43.
